Whilst we absolutely love Ceremonial Cacao, we know full well that the 100% Dark Cacao can be intense for many people. The strong taste of Cacao can easily put anyone off who is not prepared in the correct way. As with any strong flavours e.g. Spices, Coffee and Herbs, it’s important to ease yourself into new flavours. In other words, if you have never tried coffee, you would never go straight into an Espresso! So we recommend gradually easing into Cacao Ceremony. Easing into cacao consumption can be done by following these steps:
-
Start with a small amount: If you are new to cacao or have never consumed it before, it's best to start with a small amount. You can begin with a small piece of raw cacao or use a minimal amount of cacao powder in your recipes. This allows your body to adjust to the effects of cacao gradually.
-
Choose high-quality cacao: Opt for high-quality cacao products, such as raw cacao nibs or organic cacao powder, to ensure you are consuming the purest form of cacao without any additives or preservatives. High-quality cacao typically has a richer flavor and higher nutritional value.
-
Mix with other foods: Cacao can have a strong and bitter taste on its own, so you can ease into it by incorporating it into recipes with other flavors. For example, you can add cacao powder to smoothies, mix it into yogurt or oatmeal, or use it in baking recipes with other sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
-
Gradually increase consumption: Once your body has adjusted to cacao, you can gradually increase your consumption. You can start by consuming slightly larger amounts or increasing the frequency of consumption. Listen to your body and pay attention to how it reacts to cacao.
-
Be mindful of caffeine content: Cacao contains natural compounds, including caffeine and theobromine, which can have stimulating effects. If you are sensitive to caffeine or have any health conditions that may be affected by caffeine intake, such as high blood pressure or anxiety, it's important to be mindful of your cacao consumption and consult with your healthcare provider if needed.
-
Observe any reactions: Everyone's body is different, and some people may have reactions to cacao, such as digestive discomfort or allergic reactions. Be observant of how your body responds to cacao and if you experience any adverse effects, reduce your consumption or discontinue use.
-
Enjoy mindfully: Finally, remember to enjoy cacao mindfully. Pay attention to the taste, texture, and how it makes you feel. Mindful consumption can help you appreciate cacao as a nourishing food and enjoy its benefits to the fullest.
As with any dietary change, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a qualified nutritionist, especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions or concerns. They can provide personalized advice and guidance based on your individual needs and health status.
