How to make Ceremonial Cacao?

Ceremonial cacao is a special type of cacao that is prepared and consumed with intention, often in a ceremonial context. Ceremonial Cacao is packed with Antioxidants, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron and can offer a wide range of health  benefits listed here. A Cacao Ceremony can allow us to practice gratitude, give thanks, and honour the earth that we walk on.

Here at Bar Root, we have a simple recipe for making Ceremonial Cacao:

Ingredients:

  • 40g of cacao bar or cacao powder.
  • 100 - 200 ml of water or milk.
  • Sweetener (optional), perhaps Coconut Sugar, Maple Syrup.
  • Spices (optional), perhaps Cinnamon, Ginger or Cayenne Pepper.

Instructions:

  1. Heat the milk or water in a pot until it comes to near boil. Try not to boil the water as this will harm the taste and texture of the cacao. If you do boil the water, let it cool until warm. (We recommend milk for a creamier consistency).
  2. Add the ceremonial cacao bar or powder to the water.
  3. Stir the mixture continuously until the cacao is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. If desired, add sweetener (such as honey or maple syrup) to taste.
  5. Optional: add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or cayenne pepper to taste.
  6. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  7. Transfer the cacao mixture to a blender and blend on high for a minute or two, until the mixture becomes frothy.
  8. Pour the cacao into ceremonial cups or mugs and serve.

Note: It's important to use high-quality, organic cacao for ceremonial purposes, as this will ensure that the cacao is free from pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Additionally, it's important to approach the preparation and consumption of ceremonial cacao with reverence and intention, as this will help to enhance its effects.
